THE NARROW ESCAPE

Shivering and trembling, she somehow managed to run away from the dirty hands of the people or rather monsters who had been trying to lay their hands on her. They had tried to gag her, muffled her cries for help, and had hit her on the head with something sharp; she can't remember, maybe a pestle to make her unconscious. How necrophiliac anybody can be!!! But thanks to her training in the Academy, she hit one of them in the groin and another one in the head with the same pebble, or so she thought. Anyways, somehow she had managed to run away from their savage clutches into the deep dark woods.

She was running aimlessly as fast as her lungs could carry be. She didn't know in which direction, where she was, was turning. She was only aware of why, which was to save her life. She was more worried about her life than about her modesty, at this moment frankly. She knows if those barbarians get hold of her, she definitely will be raped, once, twice, she didn't realize maybe countless times, and then will be subjected to some ruthless form of inflicting pain and then when her body won't be able to bear. She'll succumb to her injuries, eventually. So she ran, contrary to the condition to her lungs and legs. She wanted to stop, but the horrific images of what might happen to her if she doesn't manage to escape kept her going. She could faintly hear their footsteps approaching; they were hurling abuses and were threatening her to stop the futile pursuit of escape. She was utterly breathless, frightened to a great extent. Her head was spinning, and she had only one thing in her mind, she can't give up, not now after escaping once narrowly.

She stood for some time and tried to concentrate despite her dizziness in their direction of approach. They were still far away, their noises faint. She took off her scarf, which currently felt like a shroud, tore it into half, and threw a piece in the opposite direction of her flight and hoped they'll get misguided. She decided to run towards it, expecting it to be the main road or highway. After about a fifteen-minute run, which seemed like an eternity, she touched the highway. The light was coming from a shack or a cabin; you can call it.

She put on her bravest face and knocked on the door; no one answered. She mirrored her actions, this time, the door creaked open, and a tall, dark, middle-aged man emerged. Another man in the middle of nowhere sent a chill down her spine. She didn't want to face any of their fraternity right now. She was in quite a proximity to another potential rapist.

The man asked her about the panting and the run. She said that she was attacked by some goons who were trying to rob her. He smiled and asked her not to lie. He understands their ways. He gave her a blanket to cover her torn clothes and provided aid to her bleeding head and bruises. She asked him his name and why he lived in the middle of nowhere like this.
He turned towards her with moist eyes and narrated how his mother was raped and killed by these monsters.

He told her the countless sleepless nights he spent in his bed as a child waiting for his mother to return. He grew up listening to various taunts from his schoolmates, neighbors, and other people. Nobody sympathized or even empathized in reality. There was a police case, but these goons have connections with some influential people; hence police get their palms duly greased, and they were never convicted. He has saved quite a few lives of girls who were going to meet the same fate as his mother. He could not save her but undoubtedly tries to save as many lives as possible living here, in the middle of nowhere, for this very reason.

It was improbable for a young person to give up his entire life like this fighting for a cause. But there he was, defying all odds and still present to protect humanity. She looked at him and smiled with moist eyes. Her heart was filled with contentment that there are still a few protectors of humankind left in this world.
